Sometimes things do not work and you may think it might be because you have the wrong version of PHP. Lucky there is a really simple way to check the current version your web server is running.

Different versions of PHP may have different default settings, and in the case of newer versions, might have new functions.

Open your terminal and run :

curl -I

Another option is to put a single line of code in a PHP file, and run it on your server to get all the information you need. To create a phpinfo file; open a text file, add the following lines, and save:

Filename: phpinfo.php

<?php // Show all information, defaults to INFO_ALL phpinfo(); ?>

PHP 7 is the choice for WordPress web developers today. Faster performance, less resources, and cool new features like scalar type declarations, the Spaceship Operator, anonymous classes, and more.
